Among them, the visual evaluation is easily affected by the observation environment, observation angle and the supervisor's emotions of the observer, which will affect the accuracy of the measurement results. For manufacturers with high gloss requirements of alloy materials, the visual evaluation method is not suitable, and the Metal gloss meter is directly used to measure the gloss of the material surface.

The gloss of an alloy material refers to the ability of its surface to reflect light when exposed to light. It is expressed as a percentage of the amount of light reflected by the sample in the direction of regular reflection relative to the amount of light reflected by the standard surface. The measurement method is to irradiate the surface of the sample with light from a standard light source at a specified incident angle, and use a photocell to measure the reflection component in its specular direction (that is, in the reflection direction symmetric to the incident angle direction).

Before using the Metal gloss meter to measure, first calibrate the instrument with a random working standard gloss plate. At present, many gloss meters on the market are intelligent and can be automatically calibrated when the machine is turned on. Then use the calibrated gloss meter to measure the sample, and place the instrument directly on the sample to take the reading. Take the arithmetic mean of the three tests as the test result. If there are more than 2 gloss units between the two values, the test should be resampled. Gloss units are generally expressed in GU, and the angle of incidence is written in parentheses.
