For the measurement of leather gloss, the commonly used methods are visual evaluation and instrument testing. However, visual evaluation is easily affected by factors such as light, observation angle, etc. Therefore, for manufacturers with high requirements on leather gloss, they will directly use a three-angle gloss meter to measure the leather surface gloss.
The gloss of leather refers to the ability of the surface to reflect light when exposed to light. It is expressed as a percentage of the amount of light reflected from the standard surface in the normal reflection direction of the sample. The measurement method is to irradiate the light of the standard light source on the surface of the sample at a prescribed angle of incidence, and use a photocell to measure the reflection component in the mirror direction (that is, the reflection direction symmetrical to the incident angle direction).
Use a three-angle gloss meter to measure, no need to calibrate the instrument with a standard working standard gloss plate. At present, many gloss meters on the market are intelligent and can be automatically calibrated when the instrument is turned on. Then use the calibrated gloss meter to measure the sample, and directly place the instrument on the sample to take the reading. Take the arithmetic average of the three tests as the test result. If there are more than 2 gloss units between the two values, re-sampling and testing should be done. The gloss unit is generally expressed in GU, and the incident angle is entered in parentheses.
